TREASURER – BC Kistler

NOTICE – The next meeting of the BR RC Club will be Tuesday, Aug 2th at the Greenwell Springs Road Library at 7:00 PM

Bob asked the treasurer to report on our financial status.  He reported that the final profit from our recent Big Bird was $323.06. He commented that several people made donations that helped.  Lee donated the coffee; Ray Shook donated the swing and arranged for Coke Cola to donate the drinks, Jolesaint donated the dinner Friday night.  All of this was greatly appreciated.  He also said our membership has increased to 77 members total for all categories.

Blackie was asked for a field report.  He said the field was in good shape.  The island of trees just east of our runway is no longer there thanks to Mike Goetzman and several others who helped.  A special thanks to Will Wilkinson for loaning us the heavy equipment to facilitate the removal of these trees.

Safety, Mike reviewed a recent accident at Red Stick were someone received severe injuries when he stuck his hand in a turning prop.  Mike reminded us that spinning props are very dangerous and you must be on constant alert to keep digits or clothing out of them.  James Bentley commented that everyone should remove the plastic flashing from a new prop before using it.  This will help reduce the severity of an injury if you do get your hand in a prop.

OLD BUSINESS
Ladies night out is scheduled for this Saturday July 9, 2005 at Drusilla Seafood at 7:00 PM.
Bob reminded everyone that Charlie still has 16 gallons of fuel and Vic has club caps for those who want them.

It was reported that the tractor shed has been cleaned out.  Vic is storing the orange fence at his house until we need it again.

Lee reported that the event committee met last week to discuss club events.  Butch Pierson voiced and interest in becoming a Contest Director as sanctioned by AMA.  Blaine Austin settled all the confusion about the event listed for the club field.  He said that he needed to fill an open date in his schedule to cut down on requests for him to fly at events.  He assured us that he would never schedule a real event at our field without the full sanction of the club.  He also said that he would like to hold an Extreme 3D event in December.  He would like to do it at our field if we are in agreement.  He said if we don’t want to do it, Pensacola RC club has offered to host it.  He answered several questions about the type of event it would be and the potential value to the club.  It was agreed that he and Lee Boutwell will get together and schedule another events committee meeting in the very near future to discuss this proposed event.  A tentative date was set for December 2,3, & 4.  One requirement he mentioned for this event is that everyone flying must have a failsafe radio system.

NEW BUSINESS
We had 3 people apply for membership.  They are John Bentley, Bill Klienpeter, and Randy Roubique.  Bill & John are past members.  All members present accepted all three for membership.

Vic pointed out that John Bentley (son of James Bentley) just returned from his second tour in Afghanistan with the Marines.  Vic suggested that we show our gratitude to this courageous young man for his service to his country and us.  Everyone present contributed to pay John’s dues for the remainder of this year as a small token of our appreciation.

Bob passed out a letter he proposed that we give all new members.  It gives them certain information about the club and contact names and numbers.  He asked us to review it and make suggestions for improvements.  He would like to finalize this letter at our next meeting and put it into use.
Farley discussed the fact that Slidell RC club recently lost their flying field and has not found a new location yet.  Farley reminded us what a great field we have and how we need to take care of it and its owners.
